The visit to the framework is organized in small groups, due to the cramped conditions of the premises. Emmanuel Macron meets Rémi Fromont, architect who led the work to reconstruct the framework and Jean-Louis Bidet, one of the carpenters who worked on the reconstruction of the framework of the cathedral.
“The framework is authentic because it was rebuilt with the same techniques, the same tools as in the 13th century”explains Rémi Fromont. 3000 dowels to fix the structure were handcrafted by the same architect over four months. “Despite the deadlines, despite the pressure, we did very high quality work and the carpenters I saw always had a smile”says the latter.
“How long does it take to train a good carpenter”asks the head of state to the architect. “A whole life”replied Jean-Louis Bidet.
