The approximately 80 peers of the Swiss Cancer League were collectively rewarded with the Sana 2024 Prize, awarded on November 30 in Zurich. As part of their voluntary commitment, they support people with cancer and their loved ones by sharing their personal experience of the disease.

+++ EMBARGO UNTIL 11/30/2024, 2 p.m. +++

Madam, Sir,

Through its eponymous prize, the Sana Foundation pays tribute to people who are committed to their fellow human beings and to our health system. In addition to the peers of the Swiss Cancer League, the prize was also awarded to Cristina De Biasio Marinello, who supports people suffering from dementia at a young age.

The Sana Prize particularly delights Erika Gardi, the initiator and head of the Peer platform of the Swiss Cancer League: “Everyone carries out essential support work on a voluntary basis. They truly deserve this recognition. »

Participants in the Peer platform all have personal experience of cancer or caring for a loved one. They know concretely what it is: anxiety about the future, the difficult management of daily life, how to regain strength. They pass on this precious wealth of experience to people going through the throes of illness.

When you have cancer, being supported during difficult times is essential. “During my two cancer diagnoses, I would have liked to have been able to speak to someone who had had a similar experience,” Andrea emphasized during the award ceremony on November 30 in Zurich. Alongside John, she represented the peer group at the ceremony. The sum of 15,000 francs will go towards continuing training specific to peer work.
