Brazilian bodybuilder José Mateus Correia Silva dies at 28 while training

Bodybuilder José Mateus Correia Silva has died at age 28. The Brazilian died of a cardiac arrest while in training.

Known in Brazil as a bodybuilder, José Mateus Correia Silva died on November 22 at the age of 28. In addition to his sporting activities, the athlete also founded a nutrition line and a fitness brand, also owning food supplement stores.

No known health problems according to the family

José Mateus Correia Silva was at the gym, with friends, when he started to feel unwell. Taken to hospital, the bodybuilder fainted on the way. The firefighters then tried to resuscitate the Brazilian, without success.

According to the victim’s brother, José Mateus Correia Silva had no known health problems. “It was inevitable,” said his brother Tiago, who thanked the emergency services for their help. “We are all very united, we have received many expressions of affection, messages, flowers,” added Tiago, speaking of his family; “We are very Catholic, we believe in eternal life and we will face it together.”

During his career as a bodybuilder, José Mateus Correia Silva notably took ninth place in the South American championships in 2018. Recognized in Brazil under the nickname “Zé”, he also trained other athletes in recent years.
