UEFA Index: France takes a good slap

The French UEFA index took a big hit with the disappointing European week of the French representatives.

This was bound to happen after a rather convincing start to the season. But of the six French clubs involved, only two won, with Olympique Lyonnais and . For the rest, Monaco was beaten severely, sank, PSG continued its slump and could not resist FC Barcelona. As a result, these defeats are paid directly with the loss of 5th place in the current season, to the benefit of Spain. Nothing infamous at the moment because the start of the season remains positive, but PSG, which was to be the locomotive of French football, remains the worst performing French club in the Champions League, while Nice contributes almost nothing.

The Portuguese teams, on the other hand, are in very good form, and we will have to be wary of the path of teams like Benfica Lisbon, Sporting or Porto, who can sometimes score very big points in the ranking over the last five years, the one which allows for to have four clubs in the Champions League. But for the moment, the danger is non-existent, especially since the Netherlands, 6th and therefore behind France, are unable to take off. However, we must not repeat these very sad weeks too often, otherwise we will see other European countries move forward on their own.
