In a city where the deadly gas explosion on Rue de Tivoli in April 2023 still resonates in many minds, the operation took on particular value. This Thursday, as part of its prevention and support actions in terms of gas safety, Médiance 13, in partnership with GRDF and the City, organized Place Général de Gaulle (1is) a workshop for the general public.
Objective ? Raise awareness among residents of the sector, and more particularly those in situations of fuel poverty, about good actions regarding the safety of gas installations. “ Among individuals, owners or tenants, we see a lot of people who have expired pipes and during our visits we change them free of charge as part of a partnership with GRDF and the City of Marseille », Explains Sabri Guilouchi, coordinator of Médiance 13 which runs the Civigaz program, showing a dangerous pipe on the table.
has side, door draft excluders, mixer taps, LED bulbs, photos of gas taps, quizzes, good reflex sheets, telephone numbers or eco-friendly sheets… “ çoften leads to a visit which reassures people who know what to do if one day there is a gas leak, or to anticipate and check if the hose is good. Because 50% of explosions are due to a hose coming loose », notes Sabri.
Eco-friendly actions that are good for the environment and your wallet “ are also at the heart of these prevention workshops ». « A refrigerator defrosts twice because half a centimeter of frost increases consumption by 30%. The passage of a technician on a boiler reduces the cost by 12% the invoice », Details Sabri. Médiance 13 visits more than 800 homes each year and welcomes the public all year round through around ten fixed points spread across the department. Operations of this type are also carried out with social landlords in the heart of housing parks.
« Here, we talk to them about everything related to energy saving with little games to find out where we can achieve it. », continues Loïc who runs the stand. “ Many come to us for eco-friendly actions or prevention and in the end it ends up with unpaid bills that they don’t know how to manage. They are in a bind and we are also here to help them », concludes the coordinator.
