While Notre-Dame de Paris is due to reopen on December 7 and 8 after five years of work, Emmanuel Macron will reward the craftsmen behind this major work during a final visit to the site.
This Friday, November 29, Emmanuel Macron will visit the Notre-Dame de Paris construction site one last time before its reopening on December 7 and 8. On this occasion, 1,300 companions will be present to welcome the President of the Republic.
To pay tribute to the work of these elite craftsmen, heirs of the builders of the Middle Ages, Emmanuel Macron will give “each of them, each participant in the operation, a diploma,” declared the Elysée.
The document will thus take the form of a parchment “which will attest to his participation in the construction site and his quality as builder of Notre-Dame,” added this same source, specifying that Rachida Dati, “who led this operation, will hand over the first diploma”.
A final symbolic speech in the building
Faced with the builders who have been at work for almost five years, Emmanuel Macron will return to the exceptional nature of such a complex restoration of a historic and religious monument within the deadline of his promise to the nation.
This speech will also be the last delivered within the Gothic cathedral. December 7 will mark the religious reopening of the building, “in the evening” indicated the Élysée. Thus, Emmanuel Macron will not be able, in his capacity as head of state, to speak in a church.
“The President of the Republic, whether in a personal capacity, but also in his capacity as head of state, is not prohibited from attending religious services. All the presidents of the Fifth Republic attended religious celebrations, of all religions,” continued the presidential palace.
On December 8, the first mass will be celebrated. On this occasion, Emmanuel Macron will attend the service, chaired by the Archbishop of Paris.
