On Wednesday November 27 around 11 a.m., emergency services were called for a gas leak on the public highway in front of the Geoffroy-Guichard stadium in Saint-Etienne.

In question: the drilling of a pipe during survey work.

Pockets of gas observed

An exclusion perimeter of 100 meters was created. Rue Pierre-Guichard is closed in both directions. Measurement networks are underway using the specialized means of firefighters and GRDF.

This Thursday, November 28, the repair of the pipe is underway. Pockets of gas, however, continue to be observed in basementwith readings above the thresholds.

Closed streets

An operation is being carried out by the firefighters to ventilate the basements. “It requires the evacuation of the Geoffroy-Guichard stadium and the establishment of a security perimeter,” specifies the Loire prefecture.

Due to a gas leak near the Etivallière site, the city of Saint-Etienne, in a permanent concern for security, in conjunction with the SDIS and Saint-Etienne Métropole, has just issued a municipal decree prohibiting the access, with immediate effect, to the Henri Lux track and the bowling alley. Rue Paul et Pierre Guichard is closed from the Roger Rocher crossroads, as well as rue de la Tour (Kivilev roundabout). The tram stop at the Geoffroy-Guichard stadium is also closed.
