Some Dell PCs are having issues entering sleep mode or not shutting down completely. Microsoft’s major Windows 11 24H2 update is the cause, Dell is working on a fix.

Since the rollout of Windows 11 24H2, many issues have emerged with the new update. Recently, Alt+Tab hotkeys caused a black screen, or a bug prevented users from scanning. Now, we add to the list of bugs Dell PCs that can no longer turn off.

A support document from the manufacturer states that there is a compatibility issue between Windows 11 24H2 and the Dell Encryption app. Version 11.9 does not seem to be compatible with the update and prevents the computer from shutting down. Likewise, putting the computer to sleep fails. It is mainly professional laptops that are affected.

Automatic repair

Microsoft has yet to acknowledge the problem, but luckily Dell has. Dell Encryption application version 11.10 has been released. This corrects the error. Very practical: the software updates automatically as soon as the error is detected.

Windows 11 24H2 is the biggest Windows 11 update of the year and comes with many new features. Those still on Windows 11 22H2 would do well to update their devices. Support for this version of Windows 11 ended on October 8.
