INTERNATIONAL – While thousands of Lebanese have just returned home, the danger is far from over. The Lebanese army, which began to deploy troops and armor in the south of the country, accused Israel this Thursday, November 28, of having violated “repeatedly” the ceasefire agreement in place for barely two days.

The latter later claimed to have carried out an airstrike against a Hezbollah facility in southern Lebanon, used “to store medium-range rockets in southern Lebanon” and have “thwarted the threat” by an airstrike. She then announced that she had imposed a curfew between 5:00 p.m. Thursday and 7:00 a.m. Friday in this part of the country, bordering northern Israel, after “opened fire” towards “suspects (…) not respecting the conditions of the ceasefire”.

“If necessary, I have given instructions” for the army to lead, “in case of violation of the ceasefire, an intensive war”warned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in an interview with Israeli media Channel 14. Furthermore, a fighter plane targeted “a forest area not accessible to civilians” in the town of Baïssariyé, Nazih Eid, the mayor of this Lebanese locality, told AFP.

A fragile agreement

The Israeli army added that its forces “remained in southern Lebanon and acted to enforce” the truce. Israeli fire also injured two people in the village of Markaba, in southern Lebanon, according to the Lebanese news agency Ani.

Meanwhile, the Lebanese army continues its deployment in the south of the country where it “installs check dams”a military source told AFP this Thursday, specifying that the soldiers would not “do not advance into areas where the Israeli army is still located”.

Sponsored by the United States and , the ceasefire agreement provides for the withdrawal within 60 days of the Israeli army from Lebanon. Hezbollah must retreat to the north of the Litani River, about 30 kilometers from the border, and dismantle its military infrastructure in southern Lebanon.

These provisions are based on UN Security Council Resolution 1701 which ended the previous war between Israel and Hezbollah in 2006. Israel said it reserved “total freedom of military action” in Lebanon, “if Hezbollah violates the agreement and tries to rearm”.
