While touring his ponds to observe possible damage following the passage of storm Caetano, a landowner made a particularly horrible discovery on Wednesday.
In Loire-Atlantique, in the town of Vigneux-de-Bretagne, he actually saw “a very small shape in one of its bodies of water. It was a naked baby, its body stuck in the grass, on its stomach,” according to West France which relays information from France 3.

The macabre discovery was made shortly after 11 a.m. on this unfenced and easily accessible place. Since then, the police have been on site to investigate. And there are many leads because “the strong current of the stream, feeding the different bodies of water, suggests that the child could have been deposited elsewhere and then taken away”, according to the regional daily.
Investigators are now trying to identify the victim and find her mother in order to also verify that she is not in distress.
An autopsy will also be carried out to determine whether the baby was alive at birth.
