Lhe Club Brugge shared 1-1 at Celtic this Wednesday evening, during the 5th day of the League Phase of the Football Champions League. Cameron Carter-Vickers opened the scoring for Bruges, against his side (26th), but Daizen Maeda equalized for Celtic in the second period (60th).
Without complexes, the people of Bruges – who have never won against Scottish clubs on the European scene – took the match directly into their hands. Ferran Jutgla was the first to put his nose to the window, but his shot missed (5th). After a quarter of an hour, Celtic reacted timidly with an off-target shot from Arne Engels (14th). The Belgian team played better than their opponent when they had the ball and did not go far from opening the scoring with a powerful strike from Andras Skov Olsen, but it was not on target (24th). It was finally necessary to rely on Cameron Carter-Vickers, whose back pass towards the goal ended up in the back, Kasper Schmeichel having positioned himself much further away (26th, 0-1). A lucky lead in the score, but deserved for Nicky Hayen’s men who managed without difficulty until the break.
In the second half, Bruges saw Schmeichel divert a good shot from Maxim De Cuyper (47th). In turn, Celtic and Club Bruges created chances, but it was the Scots who shook the nets. With a beautiful curled shot and with the help of the post, Daizen Maeda equalized (60th, 1-1), just after the exit of Engels (59th). Bruges thought they would get back in front in the 69th minute, but Jutgla was offside. The score remained there.
In the standings, Bruges now has 7 points and ranks 22nd. Their next match will take place on December 10, at home, against Sporting Portugal.
