With the beautiful days that are (almost) upon us, we must be careful not to leave devices in direct sunlight. These little technological condensates do not like it, could stop working, or even, for some and in extreme conditions, melt.

But what happened to this iPad?

This is the unfortunate experience illustrated by this Reddit user who posted on the social network the striking shots of his 2018 iPad Pro equipped with an expensive Magic Keyboard. The set was left in a car in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on a sunny day.

The closed cabin has thus accumulated heat and ended up cook literally the Magic Keyboard like an oven. While the keyboard appears to be working as per its owner, the keys have clearly suffered from the heat to the point of melting and revealing the structure of the plastic shell of the keys and the underlying mechanism. The overall appearance of the keyboard has taken a hit and the photos are truly impressive.

Do not leave your devices in the sun

However, you don’t have to go to Dubai to see devices suffering from the heat.although the result is often less spectacular than the state of this unfortunate Magic Keyboard. Indeed, and for example during summer festivals in our latitudes, artists and musicians have often learned to their cost that a computer, Mac or PC, left in full heat is very likely not to work when it is time to go on stage.

Similarly, you have certainly noticed this with smartphones on the beach, at the swimming pool or in vehicles in very hot weather, which start by darkening their screen, before simply refusing to work, indicating to the user that they will have to wait for the device to cool down. This is a phenomenon to be taken into account and taken seriously in certain regions at the time of your choiceespecially for machines without active ventilation, such as MacBook Airs.

We noted significant drops in performance in our various tests when these Macs, which do not have a fan, heat up, particularly outdoors in the summer. When the chip reaches too high a temperature, the system regulates its consumption, reduces its frequencies and therefore its performance, the time that the heat can be dissipated. The phenomenon is amplified and much more frequent, with a greater impact on the device’s capabilities, in regions where temperatures are much higher throughout the year.
