The International Rugby League has just revealed the long list of Para Rugby XIII players nominated for the 2024 Golden Boot. Among these 14 athletes, there are three French people: Nicolas CLAUSELLS, Damien DORÉ and Léo HIVERNAT.
Nicolas Clausells, who made his comeback to the French team last weekend against England, was voted “Man of the Match” with 28 points scored. A major performance which allowed Cyril TORRES’ men to recover the Fassolette-Kielty trophy. The Catalans Damien DORÉ and Léo HIVERNAT join Nicolas in this list, with whom they hope to keep the Golden Shoe, won by Jérémy BOURSON last year.
Damien, Nicolas and Léo, players of the French Para Team : “We are proud of this nomination among the list of French players. This touches us a lot and in our mind this selection goes more towards our teammates which highlights the work undertaken for months. Our common goal is to finish as world champions. With our investment and the group’s commitment, great results await us.”
Cyril TORRES, Selector/Coach of the French Para Team : “Xavier VASSON joins me in congratulating our three players. We are delighted for them and for the influence of the practice and the French team. Beyond the individual distinction, this nomination is above all a collective reward for the work accomplished so far. “
Dominque BALOUP, President of the FFR XIII : “It is with immense pride that we learn today of the nomination of three of our Para Rugby XIII players to the prestigious IRL Golden Boot world rankings.
Certainly, this is a historic step for French Rugby League, the bearer of the ministerial delegation for this sporting discipline.
This recognition, which symbolizes at the same time the performances of the three athletes and the excellence of the latest result of our national team, goes beyond the borders of our Federation. It highlights the talent of French athletes on the international scene as much as the enormous potential of this discipline in France and internationally.
I would like to warmly thank Nicolas CLAUSELLS and his remarkable performance in Saint Lô against England on Saturday November 23, Damien DORE and Léo HIVERNAT also members of the French Para Rugby XIII Team. These athletes, through their unwavering commitment and determination, inspire not only our federation, but also all the audiences who witness their exploits.
This distinction, which marks an important step in the recognition of French Para Rugby XIII, commits us resolutely to continuing our efforts for its promotion and influence. It also reinforces our desire to think differently about the challenges of a development and partnership policy for this sport, which is well ahead of societal times, and to open up today to other federations. Congratulations to our three athletes, and long live French Para Rugby XIII!“
Troy GRANT, President of the IRL : “Para Rugby XIII continues to go from strength to strength and this is reflected in the group of players selected for the 2024 IRL Golden Boot.
