Israeli media obtained and disclosed Wednesday, hours after the entry into force of a ceasefire in Lebanon and fourteen months after the start of clashes between Israel and Hezbollah, the text of the guarantees made by Washington to the Israeli authorities, in parallel with the text of the agreement between Beirut and Tel Aviv, and which provides in particular that the United States “recognizes Israel’s right to respond to threats” from Hezbollah.

The Israeli channel Channel 13 had access to this text and broadcast its contents:
– Israel and the United States intend to share sensitive intelligence regarding violations, including any Hezbollah infiltration within the Lebanese army.
– The United States has the right to share information provided by Israel with approved third parties (the Lebanese government and/or the committee) to enable them to address violations.
– The United States commits to cooperate with Israel to curb Iran’s destabilizing activities in Lebanon, including by preventing the transfer of arms or any support from Iran.
– The United States recognizes Israel’s right to respond to threats from Lebanese territory, in accordance with international law.
– In the southern zone, Israel reserves the right to act at any time in the event of a violation of obligations.
– Outside the southern zone, Israel reserves the right to act against increasing threats directed against it if Lebanon is unable or unwilling to counter these threats, including the introduction of illegal weapons into Lebanon by borders and crossing points.
– If Israel decides to take such measures, it will inform the United States whenever possible.
