Montreal police are investigating an arson attack that targeted a commercial building overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday in the Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension borough.

The Montreal City Police Service (SPVM) was alerted around 1:30 a.m. for a suspicious fire in a business located on avenue du Parc, near avenue Beaumont.

When firefighters from the Montreal Fire Department (SIM) arrived on the scene, the start of the fire had already been brought under control by a witness who was passing by at the time.

No one was injured, while at least one window of the establishment, an apartment at the MS Thind immigration services and advice center, was smashed, but the fire did not start inside.

An incendiary object was found on site, indicated SPVM spokesperson Mariane Allaire-Morin, who also specified that the damage caused to the building was minor.
