The energy checkpaid each year to the most modest households to help them pay their electricity, gas or even domestic fuel oil bills, allows you to earn between 48 and 277 euros.

Have you been forgotten? You can request it on an online complaints platform that should open this Thursday, July 4, 2024. Explanations.

Thousands of French people, who were actually eligible for this sum of money, did not receive it automatically last April, due to the abolition of the housing tax on the main residence since January 1, 2023, which would have made the identification of the affected outbreaks more difficult.

It’s up to you to take the step

To remedy this hiccup, the Minister of the Economy, Bruno Le Maire, announced last May this catch up session and the establishment of this complaints desk.

For households eligible for the scheme for this year 2024 – based on their situation in 2022 (income declared to the tax authorities in 2023 and household composition) – a portal will be available from this Thursday, July 4, 2024 to allow them to request this energy check.

Who is concerned ?

This particularly concerns young people who have entered working life (first-time filers), households whose income fell between 2021 and 2022 and households who experienced a birth in 2022.

Before starting this process, each household will nevertheless have to check its eligibility. There are several online simulators, but the one for the energy check set up by the government is undoubtedly the most reliable.

The energy check is awarded subject to resource conditions. Its amount is calculated based on your reference tax income (RFR) and the composition of your household.

The official website of the French administration

Households that should have received this sum this year will be able to connect from this Thursday to a website, at the address chequeenergie.gouv.fr, to make the request, and this, until December 2024.

How to apply?

For this process, each household must provide several documents. In detail, it is necessary to provide proof of a tax number, a valid identity document, as well as an energy bill in the name of the person requesting the energy check.

In 2024, the energy check amount is between 48 euros and 277 euros. It is calculated based on the household’s reference tax income (RFR) and the composition of the household determined in consumption units (UC). (© Ministry of Economy)

For households far removed from digital technology, they can make a request via user assistance and send their supporting documents by post, also attaching their 2022 income declaration(s), declared in 2023. In this case, the processing time will be two months maximum.

And when will you receive it?

Once the request is sent, it is submitted to the department responsible for approving it… or rejecting it. The energy check will be sent within the month following validation of the file.

In other words, the more the request is made early and the faster the applicant can hope to receive this money.

A check to be used until March 31, 2025

As a reminder, the energy check can be used for a yearor until March 31, 2025 for the 2024 check, to pay bills for electricity, gas, wood or fuel oil heating and certain energy work on the home.

The energy checks were sent automatically from April 2 to 25, 2024 to people who had benefited from the system last year. Those who were not forgotten, therefore.

How to use your energy check?

Once you have received your energy check, you can use it directly online and pay part of your energy costs from your electricity or natural gas supplier, or from your social landlord (for rental charges including energy costs), send it to your social landlord or your energy supplier by post (you can find their address on your latest bill or payment schedule).

And so that your energy check for the coming years is directly deducted from your electricity or gas billyou can request its pre-allocation, either online or by sending your energy check by post to your supplier or your social landlord after having checked the “pre-allocation” box on the document.

You will then no longer receive your energy check by mail. In spring 2025, an email will simply inform you of the amount of your energy check for the year.

Requests for information can also be made on this interface or by telephone (at 0 805 204 805), Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
