Declaration, debate, vote… The trade agreement between the European Union and the Mercosur countries is on the agenda of the National Assembly, this Tuesday, November 26, after the Questions to the Government session. An agreement that refuses to sign as it stands. Special broadcast on LCP to follow live video, on this page.

The Mercosur on the agenda of the National Assembly. This Tuesday, November 26 afternoon, the government made a statement regarding “the ongoing negotiations relating to the association agreement between the European Union and Mercosur” at the Palais Bourbon. As it stands, France opposes the signing of this trade agreement between the EU and the Mercosur countries (Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, Bolivia).

After the government's declaration, the speakers of the eleven political groups of the Palais-Bourbonas well as the president of the commission of foreign affairsBruno Fuchs (The Democrats) and that of the committee of European affairs, Pieyre-Alexandre England (Together for the Republic), will present their position on the subject.

This debate takes place under thearticle 50-1 of the Constitution which states: “Before one or other of the assemblies, the Government may, on its own initiative or at the request of a parliamentary group within the meaning of article 51-1, make, on a specific subject, a declaration which gives rise to for debate and can, if it decides, be the subject of a vote without incurring liability“. The vote which will follow the debate therefore has no strictly speaking binding value for the government, but in this case the executive is seeking the support from MEPs to be able to exert all its weight at European level.
