Saint-Julien-Chapteuil. A fire simulation at the retirement home. Last Friday, a fire intervention exercise was organized at the Capitolian nursing home. This operation was set up jointly with Henry Herdt, director of the establishment, and chief warrant officer David Roubin, from the departmental fire brigade and coordinator of this exercise.
Two intervention vans, a team leader, a column leader and around twenty firefighters from the Puy-en-Velay barracks were mobilized. The staff of the Haute-Loire Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (Sdis 43) do not know the location, they only know that they are working on an aging structure of 60 patients with various pathologies.
The volunteer firefighters from the Capitoline rescue center were unable to intervene with their Ponot colleagues, as initially agreed, following an intervention in the sector at the same time. On the retirement home side, two nurses, two hospital service agents and the maintenance agent were mobilized for this operation in order to implement the scenario instructions during annual training. As soon as the alarm was triggered, the automatic fire doors were blocked. A room had been smoked to simulate a fire starting with an unconscious person.
Staff evacuated patients from the affected area to a secure area. Immediately, after reading the fire safety plan, the firefighters took action, under the orders of Commander Éric Pérez, head of the training group. For some firefighters it was at the same time a training exercise for all equipment commanders (the latter commands a vehicle including a crew and emergency equipment in intervention).
The Sdis 43 personnel continued their training with a fire exercise in an industrial environment, the Bobitech factory and on a farm with fertilizer storage.
