From February 1, 2025, new pricing for postal letters and parcels will be applied by Post.

Post Luxembourg announced this Tuesday, November 26, that it would be making price adjustments for postal items. This concerns sending of national and international letters and parcels from February 1, 2025.

First adjustment: a new classification of geographic areas for shipping rates will be implemented. If for letters up to 50 g and up to 500 g, the rates remain harmonized for the Europe and World zones, the new pricing will be more advantageous for sending parcels.

For example, for packages sent to neighboring countries as well as the Netherlands and Portugal will be more competitive due to the high volume of trade with these destinations: the rate for sending a package up to 2 kg to these destinations will drop by 50% compared to the old rates (XL parcels).

At the national level, the rate for sending a package weighing up to 2 kg will decrease by 20% to 30% depending on the dimensions. This new pricing structure
will be particularly beneficial for domestic e-commerce players, allowing them to reduce their shipping costs and improve their competitiveness in the market, Post says.

Postage of letters increases

For sending letters, on February 1, 2025, the postage for a standard letter increases by 20 euro cents for national mailings and thus rises to 1.20 euros.

For shipments (up to 50 g) to Europe and the rest of the world, the rates increase by 30 and 65 euro cents respectively, rising to 1.70 euros and 2.40 euros.

Non-profit associations and foundations will continue to benefit from preferential rates. A national standard shipment will be 0.60 euros on February 1, 2025.

Stamps still valid

As of February 1, 2025, postage stamps with a face value lower than the new applicable rates can still be used provided additional postage is added.

Stamps without face value are valid for sending mail of a specific weight without time limit. Thus, a “L50g” stamp, for example, remains valid for the national sending of a standard 50 g letter.

These new rates, explains Post, should make it possible to “ensure the sustainability and quality of universal service in the face of the structural decline in mail volumes and the increase in associated costs, particularly labor and transport”.

The last revision of postal service prices dated September 1, 2022 and will continue to be below the average of the prices applied in Europe and below the prices applied in neighboring countries, concludes the group.
