The accident occurred around 03:30 GMT, involving a Swiftair plane, operated by a DHL partner, which was coming from Leipzig airport in Germany.

The German Foreign Minister said on Monday that the crash in Lithuania of a cargo plane leaving from Germany could be “an accident or a hybrid incident” linked to external intervention.

“We have to ask ourselves (…) seriously whether it was an accident or, like last week, again a hybrid incident,” said Annalena Baerbock, on the sidelines of a G7 meeting in Italy, referring to the recent rupture of two telecommunications cables in the Baltic Sea for which sabotage is not excluded.

The cargo plane of the German logistics group DHL which crashed this Monday morning near Vilnius, Lithuania, was making an “emergency landing”, the company said in a statement.

At the beginning of November, several people were arrested in Lithuania and Poland in the case of incendiary packages sent by plane to different European countries, the traces of which could, according to several capitals, lead to Russia.
