the essential
In their last three meetings, Malemort and Decazeville each posted a home defeat. In other words, two teams looking for redemption, the first not wanting to lose at home again and the second hoping to compensate.
It was the men of Fiche and Rouquette who pulled off the right move with this 23-7 victory which reflects the entire game quite well, a benchmark match away from home. A serious first half leaning against the wind.
A conquest based on a good harvest in the alignment and overall a fairly fair performance in scrum. The 7 to 7 at the break is consistent with the appearance of the first act even if we can regret not having made a little more concrete with the wind at our backs.
The “blue and white” try was the work of scrum half Martinez who, on a fake pass, took the defenders on board at 20 meters from Corrèze to score his first try. The substitutes had done the job and the supporters could ask themselves whether the rather solid bench would make the difference? He did it and did it well.
Against the wind, Decazeville, as a whole, sought to raise the balls rather than returning them to the feet, this ultimately paying off with a try starting from a restart from Alaux, Verdié and finished by Martinez for his second try of the day. Then it was enough to manage the advantage which the Decazevillois were able to do with the penalties from Alaux and Monbroussous.
Very satisfied coaches
Anthony Julian said he was “very satisfied with the behavior of the players who started the match well, a match that we took from the right end this time. In the second half the substitutes did what was necessary and we are very happy with the result which makes up for our misstep last weekend. And what’s more, no injuries.”
As for Étienne Rous, he admitted “having played an intelligent match, in control from start to finish despite the wind. Against the wind we had planned our game and it happened like this. We were good in conquest and at the back we played simply but in advance and good in defense.” And to deliver, even if he congratulates the whole group, “a special mention to Romain Verdié who performed 80 minutes at a very high level. He improved every ball he touched. When we have players like him, it helps a lot.”
From this ninth day, we will remember the away victories of the top teams, competitors of Decazevillois, Lormont (in Arpajon) and Bergerac (in Clermont) and the severe defeat of Villeneuve-sur-Lot in Belvès. Sporting remains in 4th place with a match behind their direct opponents.
Another heavy defeat for team B
Team B lost heavily against the 9th in the group with a score of 88 to 12. A busy infirmary created a significant shortage in the squad of team B which showed 19 players on the match sheet. We must wait for a few returns from valid players to hope for a return to normal and in the meantime turn our backs.
