Ukrainian studio GSC Game World has officially launched STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl on PC, Xbox Series and via Game Pass. However, the title did not receive uniform reception, due to various technical issues.
Numerous tests have highlighted the presence of bugs, highlighting faults in the game. However, the opinions of players are more divided: a majority seems to appreciate the title despite the problems, and the title obtains a good score on Metacriticand remains massively played on Steam. This disparity could be explained by the fact that the press evaluated a preliminary version, before the application of a massive patch of more than 100 GB deployed on release day. This patch has likely improved the experience, although some players are still reporting issues.
Faced with this feedback, it is advisable to wait before fully embarking on the adventure, until GSC Game World continues active monitoring and offers updates to correct defects. The studio confirmedr his Steam page that he is taking player feedback into account and is already working on corrective patches.
Changes announced in future updates:
- Crash fixes : related to memory allocation, rendering, cutscenes or skeletal meshes.
- Progress in the main quest : fixed bugs blocking progression, misplaced NPCs, and incorrect markers.
- Gameplay Adjustments : balancing weapon prices, NPC behaviors, and managing weather events like emissions.
- Visual improvements : Fixed missing facial animations, visual issues (detached heads, clothing bugs).
- User interface : notifications corrected, texts adjusted and various bugs resolved.
- Softlocks : Fixed cases where actions blocked progress (for example, on controller).
Some issues, like bugs with analog sticks or the A-Life system, will be fixed in future patches, and if S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 suffers from technical flaws at launch, the title has promising potential and should improve over time. Now, it remains to be seen whether monitoring and updates will be regular to provide an optimal experience. For your part, have you embarked on the adventure of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl?
