Three Israelis were injured on Sunday by a new salvo of rockets launched from Lebanon, against a backdrop of escalating hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah, Israeli media reported.

According to an Israeli army statement, 30 rockets were fired from Lebanese territory into the Galilee region in northern Israel, triggering air alert sirens in the area.

The military said eight more rockets were launched toward the Tel Aviv metropolitan area, with most of the projectiles intercepted while others hit open areas.

The Israeli daily, Israel Hayom, reported that a rocket damaged a factory in Ma'alot Tarshiha, in the western Galilee. A woman was also slightly injured by rocket fragments in the area.

Two more Israelis were injured after a rocket hit a building in Petah Tikva, east of Tel Aviv, according to Channel 12.

The attack led to a temporary suspension of flights at Ben Gurion Airport in central Israel, public broadcaster KAN reported.

Channel 14 later reported that some 250 rockets in total were launched into northern Israel from Lebanon, activating sirens in hundreds of Israeli towns and villages.

The Lebanese group Hezbollah claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it launched a salvo of rockets at Ma'alot Tarshiha.

Israel is engaged in a cross-border war against Lebanon. In late September, it launched a campaign of airstrikes against what it claims were Hezbollah targets.

According to Lebanese health authorities, more than 3,700 people have been killed by Israeli attacks in Lebanon, more than 15,600 have been injured and more than a million have been displaced since October last year.

On October 1 this year, Tel Aviv widened the conflict by launching a ground attack in southern Lebanon.
