After Manchester City's rout against Tottenham, Liverpool won at Southampton to take an eight-point lead at the top of the Premier League!
After 12 days of the Premier League, one team is now alone at the top of the standings. It’s obviously Liverpool! After the humiliation suffered by Manchester City on Saturday against Tottenham (0-4), for the fifth defeat in a row in all competitions for Pep Guardiola's team, the Reds pulled away from Southampton to win 3-2 and take eight points ahead of the Cityzens, one week before the clash between the two teams at Anfield!
Arne Slot's men fell behind in the Saints' den, since after Dominik Szoboszlai opened the score, following a terrible error from a local defender (30th), Adam Armstrong (42nd, sp) and Mateus Fernandes (65th) gave the advantage to their team, the red lantern of the PL. Ibrahima Konaté was unable to slow down the counter-attack which made the goal 2-1.
Wrong Liverpool port
The inevitable Mohamed Salah won the LFC with a double. The Egyptian genius took over a long opening from Ryan Gravenberch for 2-2 (65th). The Liverpuldiens then pushed, notably with the good entry of Luis Diaz, and were saved by an unfortunate hand from Yukinari Sugawara in the Soton area which allowed Mo Salah to give victory to his team with a converted penalty in front of Alex McCarthy.
Liverpool are playing a Premier League clash on Wednesday against Real Madrid, already at Anfield, while Manchester City will perhaps be able to breathe a few starters when Feyenoord visits on Tuesday.
