The painful episode occurred in 2020, following a road accident, and continues to mark, every day, the career of Esteban Lepaul, the attacker of the Angers team.
He has a family name that gives him a very special energy: Lepaul. First name: Esteban. The surname of the young player from Angers (Ligue 1), 24 years old, resonates in the world of Football, recalling the great times, in particular, of AJ Auxerre.
In the 90s, his father, Fabrice, was a very promising player, crowned French champion in 1996 with the Burgundian club. A destiny, however, cut short by two serious road accidents.

The first occurred in 1997, when Esteban was not yet born. Fabrice Lepaul, aged only 21, suffered serious injuries and fell into a coma for two weeks. His professional career ended prematurely.
The second accident occurred one night in 2020, not far from Épinal. The consequences this time are much more serious. Seriously hit in the head, Fabrice Lepaul suffers from irreversible brain damage. The doctors tell Esteban that his father will not wake up. And that it is up to him, as the only son, to make the cruel decision to stop treatment.

“That same evening, I'm going to have a 'barbeuc' with my friends”, rewinds Esteban in an interview with The Team. “People think I'm crazy. I say, 'Guys, this is the only way I can make this right.' We were at my best friend's house, together.”

He continues: “The next day, when the machines were turned off, I was next to my father. I just asked him for forgiveness, because it was the only time I gave him medicine, he who didn't want it. never. I told the doctors: 'I'm not going to stay a hundred and seven years. In an hour, this has to be sorted.' It lasted for fifty minutes. The machines went off and then it was… weird. I felt like the day was pretty unemotional.
The tears, however, will arrive a few hours later, nourished and inconsolable.
