Luis Campos is the great architect of the arrival of Luis Enrique au PSG after the departure of Christophe Galtier. The sporting director of the capital club was however on another XXL track for the Parisian bench.

Mercato PSG: Mikel Arteta, Luis Campos’ other missed move

In the summer of 2023, after the departure of Christophe Galtier, PSG embarked on a vast recruitment operation to find the ideal successor. Luis Campos then drew up a list of nine potential managers, which included Luis Enrique and Mikel Arteta. “Campos had a good relationship with Arteta. He had Arteta on his shelves for PSG last summer”revealed Riolo in theAfter Foot.

Mikel Arteta's profile was particularly attractive for his vision of the modern game and his ability to develop young players. His experience at Arsenal, where he managed to revive the club, was also an argument in his favor. The good relationship between Luis Campos and Arteta, as well as the Spaniard's success at Arsenal, had made him a serious candidate for the position of PSG coach. However, it was ultimately Luis Enrique who was chosen.

Thiago Motta, the other dream track for history

If the Spanish coach has brought new life to the team, the results do not always live up to expectations, particularly in the Champions League. And this despite a disputed semi-final last season. If it was ultimately Luis Enrique who was chosen by Luis Campos, Daniel Riolo believes that PSG may have taken the wrong path.

“I always said, I gave him my opinion, I told him, there is Thiago Motta, the story of PSG is to try the adventure with him. He tempted Luis Enrique, that’s his opinion”he added. The Spanish technician is today at the head of a brand new project which aims to build a competitive team for the future and with young talents.
