MEP Sarah Knafo has just questioned the European Parliament on the arrest of the Franco-Algerian writer Boualem Sansal. In her press release, sent to MEPs, she proposes, on behalf of her Europe of Sovereign Nations (ENS) group “the addition of a debate during next week's plenary session: Request for immediate release of Boualem Sansal, famous Franco-Algerian writer, detained by Algeria”.

The MEP had already reacted to the disappearance of the 75-year-old novelist on X: “Like the worst dictatorships, Algeria locks up its best minds. Boualem Sansal is a courageous intellectual, critical of the regime and lucid about Islam. He was therefore censored, then threatened. Now stopped. And tomorrow? must act to obtain his release. ».

Last September, the Algerian state filed a complaint against French MEP Sarah Knafo. The elected official from Eric Zemmour's party declared that Algeria had received development aid valued at 800 million euros from France, citing official figures. The complaint was then dismissed. During a press conference, the Algerian head of state Tebboune directly attacked Sarah Knafo, which led to insults and threats against the elected official.
