The freezing cold is over. After the snowy and windy episode of Thursday and Friday, France will be able to benefit from a particularly mild weekend for the season. In the southwest of France, temperatures should even reach 21°C on Sunday afternoon. But how can we explain such a change in temperature?
Storm Caetano did not go unnoticed. Île-de-France, Normandy and Center-Val-de-Loire were particularly affected by the intense cold snap. On the wind side, Île-de-Groix in Morbihan recorded a gust of 162 km/h. Nantes was hit by winds of 121 km/h and La Roche-sur-Yon in Vendée recorded winds of 118 km/h.
These weather episodes have caused clashes on the roads, and even serious accidents, like the one on the A6B motorway, in Val-de-Marne, where a bus traveling from Paris to the west lost control. Thousands of homes were also without electricity.
So, is this a sign of a harsh winter? Not necessarily, because hot air coming from the south will settle over France from this Saturday. Clearings could even make you think of a spring day.
Saturday morning still remains cold with frequent frosts in the southwest, but warmer temperatures will occur during the day. This phenomenon is explained by the shift of a flow from the south accelerated by a depression off the coast of Ireland. This will cause the temperature to rise due to the rise of a particularly mild air coming directly from Morocco.
The rise in temperatures will continue on Sunday with remarkable mildness. Maximum temperatures will approach 20°C in the north and the
25°C in the Basque Country. This general mildness lasting several days will, however, be accompanied by rain, particularly in Brittany, Normandy and the Paris region.
