In his box, the defendant immediately admitted the facts. On November 8, 2024, in Saint-Évarzec, a 46-year-old man saw the gendarmes. “I was scared so I accelerated,” he told the hearing this Friday, November 22. He was intercepted a few kilometers further on, driving at 98 km/h in a zone limited to 50 km/h.
And his fear of the military was justified: in addition to around thirty entries in the criminal record, the defendant had been driving, since 2021, without a license, without technical inspection, in an uninsured car and still in the name of the former owner.
Two to three joints per day
To justify the use of his car despite the withdrawal of his license, the forty-year-old declared that he had to bring his daughter, who has a disability, several times a week to Quimper for her medical appointments. “He doesn’t take the car to go have a drink on the coast,” his lawyer tried to justify.
Furthermore, during his check, the defendant also tested positive for cannabis. An addiction that he has had since he was 15. “I smoke two to three joints a day,” he said, saying that he couldn’t stop despite his good will.
While his lawyer believed that a prison sentence would be “counterproductive”, the man was ultimately sentenced to one year and to treatment obligations.
