A fire broke out this Thursday evening at the Mahé de la Bourdonnais college in Saint-Denis. Of criminal origin, the refectory was completely devastated and is currently unusable.

Live in the 6/8 Together this Friday morning, the principal of the Mahé de La Bourdonnais college Méderic Hoarau draws up an initial assessment:

“The establishment is closed today. It is, according to the first elements, an arson. The damage is significant and checks will be carried out this morning. The rector will also be present. Concretely, the refectory has was completely ravaged by the flames, it is unusable. The kitchen part was less impacted. A solution will now have to be found with the help of experts and communities.

For several weeks, the catering of college students will be disrupted. Students should be welcomed next week with suitable catering:

“We will welcome the students from next week, according to a schedule that will be established by the establishment. We are going to offer them cold meals for the moment, while the building is restored, which will require a few weeks of work,” precise Marina Lebois director of education in the department of Réunion.

Visiting the site, the rector of said he was determined and condemned the acts of vandalism: “The patrols will be reinforced, I know that the principal is working in conjunction with the department and the police to perhaps set up a video surveillance system.”

The rector assures him, a complaint will be filed. An investigation is open to determine the exact circumstances of the fire. The 3 alleged perpetrators are still being sought.
