In the morning of November 21, 2024a dramatic incident occurred in Landifay, in the hamlet of Bertaignemont. A fire broke out at 7h30 in an agricultural dryer with a surface area of 1 600 m²where are stored 1,200 tonnes of corn. The situation was particularly worrying because the fire could create a risk of explosion due to the pressure built up inside the installations.
Mobilization of personnel and equipment
To face this challenge, the teams of firefighters have deployed considerable resources. In total, 35 firefighterscoming from various centers like Gauze, Saint-Quentin et Etreuxparticipate in the operation. Additionally, a command post was established to organize efforts to fight the flames. To thwart the fire, several spears are used and an aerial device has been put in place to create openings in the roof, thus allowing toxic fumes to be evacuated.
Preparation for the risk of explosion
Aware of the danger, firefighters inspected the building to assess potential dangers. Grain emptying operations are underway using a mechanical machine from the farm. Through this approach, they hope to reduce the load inside the building and mitigate the risk of a possible explosion.
Essential support for affected farmers
As part of this incident, an expert in silo management from the SDIS 02 as well as a veterinarian, due to the proximity of cattle, were also mobilized, thus showing the variety of skills necessary to manage such a complex situation. Furthermore, although the fire caused considerable material damage, it is decisive that no human casualties were reported.
The importance of rapid fire response
THE firefighters of Aisne worked with determination and professionalism. Their responsiveness and coordination were essential in minimizing the consequences of this incident. In addition, continuous monitoring is put in place to ensure the safety of the premises and avoid any risk of fire resuming.
We would like to convey our support to the farmers affected by this difficult incident. The material loss is significant, and we salute their resilience in the face of this crisis.
