It was the most anticipated final of the first day of the French Championships, which opened this Friday in Angers. With a quarter of an hour delay and after a false start by William Aguessy, the 100m final was won by Pablo Matéo in 10″08 (+ 1.4 m/s). The 23-year-old sprinter, licensed with Lisses AC and trained by Mickaël Hanany in El Paso (Texas) becomes the 9th Frenchman of all time.

Behind him, Jeff Erius equals Ronald Pognon in 4th place among the best French hopefuls (-23 years old) with 10″11. Dylan Vermont, who arrived in Angers with a record of 10″33 (in 2022), takes 3rd place in 10″15.

Ryan Zézé is 4th in 10″17, his best time of the summer, ahead of his elder Meba-Mickaël Zézé (10″19), who was injured at the Euro in Rome. Jimmy Vicaut finishes 6th in 10″24.

Scrub and recover

A little more than two weeks after his silver medal at the European Championships, in the 10,000 m, Yann Schrub won his first French champion title in the 5000 m. The doctor signed a final 400 m in 54″98 and won in 13’41″38 ahead of Romain Legendre (13’42″71) and Hugo Hay (13’45″37).

« I had less good feelings than in Rome obviously, Schrub reacted. It was a great championship, I needed time to recover, especially with the medal, I enjoyed myself a bit, took a break. It did me a lot of good. I arrived here like that but I had never won the French Elite champion title. There was no shortage of adversity despite Jimmy’s absences (Gressier) and Etienne (Daguinos). I came with confidence but not that much. I’m happy to be able to win at the finish. It was a good last tactical race before the Games. »

Loga dethrones Tavernier

Bronze medallist in Rome, Rose Loga won her first national elite hammer title, with her 5th throw of 70.60 m. Alexandra Tavernier, until now the leader, took second place with 69.50 m. Xena Ngomateke, Loga’s training partner in Eaubonne, took third place with 65.12 m. « It’s my first title, but what’s important is not necessarily the title, but that I do 70 meters, analyzed the 21-year-old pitcher. I knew I was in good shape, but it was sluggish. »

“I haven’t been beaten at the French Championships since 2013, it hurts! admitted Alexandra Tavernier. I’m sad. When I did the last try, I thought it was going to be okay, but I started crying. We don’t realize, but this French title is important. I held on. It’s been since the European Championships since the European Championships since I last touched a hammer in training, nor did weight training. We can’t do miracles with three weeks off, but it’s a little heartbreaking. But next year, I will get back up. This is only a postponement. »

Madeleine solo, Fosther-Katta on the last attempt

Alone, Sarah Madeleine won her first elite title in the 5000m. Eighth in Rome, the cross-country skier, who is starting this season in the distance, won in 15’44″88, ahead of Aude Clavier (15’57″31). Madeleine, 25, should qualify for the Olympics thanks to the ranking.

Wilfried Happio, the best French performer of the season, controlled the 3rd and final series of the 400m hurdles, in 50″61. In the 400m, Amandine Brossier signed, with 51″33, the best time overall. In the 800m, the best (Rénelle Lamote in 2’03″24, Agnès Raharolahy in 2’03″64, Anaïs Bourgoin, 3rd in the Euro in Rome, in 2’03″26, Léna Kandissounon in 2’03″11 and Charlotte Pizzo in 2’03″15) qualified for the final, scheduled for Saturday, at 7:40 p.m.

The other titles of the day were awarded to Anne-Suzanna Fosther-Katta in the triple jump (13.77 m, + 1.7 m/s), Lenny Brisseault in the javelin (71.49 m), Martin Lefèvre and Maxime Dubiez ex tied for height with 2.13 m, Ana Delahaie on 10,000 m walk (45’11″15) and Amanda Ngandu-Ntumba in the shot put with 17.11 m, becoming the 6th French performer all time.
