Teams contact Preds for Yaroslav Askarov and asking price is high

Last night, we reported that the Nashville Predators had agreed on an 8-year contract extension with their star goaltender Juuse Saros. An agreement that can only be formalized on July 1.

While many believed that Barry Trotz was going to trade Saros to make room for the young Yaroslav Askarovrather the opposite seems to be happening now.

Trotz knows very well that he will not be able to keep a talent like Askarov as a 2nd goalie and he would rather trade him as quickly as possible in order to fill other needs.

That’s exactly what he’s doing according to reports currently circulating in Las Vegas.

L’insider Pierre LeBrunreports that the Preds are willing to trade him and they would like to move into the top-5 of the draft tonight.

The Nashville Predators have received numerous calls regarding goaltender Yaroslav Askarov over the past 24 hours following the news of Juuse Saros’ extension. The Preds are open to moving him but have set a high price that they feel is justified. Nashville would like to move into the top five of the first round tonight via a trade for Askarov. So far, there has been no deal. But the Preds will continue to talk to teams.

It’s important to mention that Nashville has the 22nd overall pick. A choice that could be paired with Askarov in order to get what they want.

The 22-year-old Russian goaltender was drafted 11th overall in 2020 and has done very well in the AHL, posting a .911% save percentage for two straight seasons.
