BIKE. Bad weather conditions somewhat spoiled Lake Champlain Cycling Day last month in Venise-en-Québec. In total, 420 cyclists had registered. In 2023, around 750 people will start at Jameson Park.

If the morning was spared when the participants got on their bikes, the clouds were much more present afterwards.

“We had some showers, especially in the afternoon. But the cyclists still enjoyed their day,” summarizes Michel Lavigne, general manager of the event. He mentions that about twenty participants still registered on the morning of this 18th edition.

Most of the participants came from the four corners of Montérégie. A few Americans were also there. Mr. Lavigne emphasizes that approximately 150 volunteers assigned to different tasks ensured the smooth running of the event.

Cycling Day, which first took place in 2007, attracts between 700 and 1,000 participants each year. Courses of 25, 50, 65 and 115 km allow fans to choose their preferred distance. Mr. Lavigne notes that the 115 km course was the most popular.

For kids

That said, a family component could enhance Lake Champlain Cycling Day in 2025 in Venise-en-Québec. The organizers plan to offer a course for the youngest.

» The committee wants to give a family spirit to the event. We are thinking of organizing a cycling tour for children and creating some entertainment,” concludes Michel Lavigne.
