Algeria Football – Following the 1-1 draw between Algeria and Morocco, UNAF named Anes Merbah, goalkeeper of CR Bélouizdad, as man of the match.
Algeria U20 won a draw (1-1) against Morocco in its second match of the UNAF U20 tournament, qualifying for the African Cup of Nations in the category. After an identical first score against Egypt, the Fennecs now find themselves obliged to win their next two matches against Tunisia and Libya to hope for qualification.
The meeting started with Moroccan pressure, notably with Ayman Arguig (Huesca) who forced the Algerian goalkeeper Anes Merbah (CR Bélouizdad) to make a decisive save in the 6th minute. Algeria, however, opened the scoring thanks to Mohamed Zeghadi (Montpellier), author of a superb curl after an excellent serve from Anis Fatahine (Paris FC B). This goal quickly awakened the Atlas Lions, who increased their offensives, but were systematically repelled by an imperial Merbah.
In the second half, Morocco continued its domination. Saad El Haddad (Venezia) and Mouad Dahak (Union Touarga) put the Algerian defense to the test, but Merbah continued to excel. The Fennecs could have sealed their victory in the 58th minute, but Ben Ahmed Kohili’s penalty (Paradou AC) was missed, leaving the Moroccans in the game. Finally, Yassir Zabiri (Famalicao) equalized in the 87th minute, taking advantage of a drop in vigilance in the Algerian defense.
Despite this frustrating result, Anes Merbah was logically elected man of the match for his many crucial saves that kept Algeria alive. With two matches remaining, the Fennecs will have to show more efficiency to hope to validate their ticket for the CAN U20. The match was broadcast live on the official UNAF YouTube channela great opportunity for fans to follow this intense confrontation.
