HBO has defended the engagement of Harry Potter author JK Rowling. The author first went public with her views, which many describe as transphobic, in 2020. At the time, she faced strong backlash and criticism, leading to condemnation of everything which concerns Harry Potter. We all remember the Hogwarts Legacy controversy from last year.

However, it seems that times have indeed changed. Variety reports that HBO executive Casey Bloys has revealed that Rowling has not been dropped from the new Harry Potter series. In fact, Rowling was “very, very involved in the screenwriter and director selection process” said Bloys, a spokesperson adding that his “contribution has been invaluable.”

The same spokesperson also wrote in a statement that “JK Rowling has the right to express her personal opinions. We will remain focused on the development of the new series, which will only benefit from her involvement.”

Rowling hasn't backed down from her anti-trans posts online, and despite a strange tweet about a Harry Potter casting call here and there, she hasn't done much except continue his online crusade.
