On the morning of November 11, the Place des Tilleuls in Mouchès resonated with emotional solemnity during the long-awaited inauguration of the war memorial. Around the Mouchèsians, many local personalities were present alongside Bruno Libaros, mayor, and the municipal council to pay this collective tribute. A group in uniform representing the mobile gendarmerie squadron of the Laubadère de Mirande barracks, from where many young Gersois left for the Great War, recalled the weight of local military history, during this tribute to the three children of Mouches fell for France. Joseph Bordères, from Artigues (Mirande), Jean Sabathier from Miramont-d'Astarac and François-Henri Sénac from Pézenas are the three names now engraved in the marble of the war memorial.
Michel Augé, first deputy, orchestrated the progress of the ceremony and organized an exhibition of archives in the community hall, retracing the destinies of the soldiers of Mouchès. Some had returned from the war, others rest forever on the battlefields, but all saw their stories mixed with those of the families present. This strong moment brought the town together around the values of memory and patriotism. “This day is not a public holiday like any other,” underlined Michel Augé. “This is an opportunity to measure the price of our freedom and to pay tribute to those who gave it to us.”
