Dozens of pallets and hundreds of cardboard boxes intended to help flood victims in Spain. Anaëlle and her loved ones decided to organize a donation drive. An obvious outpouring of solidarity. “I saw the disaster on television. I also followed the events via social networks and through contact people on site. I am personally affected because I am of Spanish origin. This can happen to all of us. We can all, one day, find ourselves in need like the Spaniards right now”confides Anaëlle Kara, volunteer with a big heart.

Painful memory of July 2021

A few minutes before departure, the volunteers finish loading the truck, affected by the situation in Spain, a painful echo of the events that occurred in our region in July 2021. “We met extraordinary people. We have also kept a lot of contacts. People feel really concerned because many were themselves affected by the floods of 2021. Disaster victims who received a lot of aid at the time and therefore they in turn want to help people in need”specifies Gaëlle Kara, sister of Anaëlle, also a volunteer.

10 tons of goods

Among these donations, we find essential goods: non-perishable food, water but also hygienic products, clothes, boots, shovels, buckets, … 10 tons of goods in total . Donations come from individuals, stores, charities and private companies like MB Groupe. This is not the first time that this Plenesses company has offered logistical and financial means to help victims of a disaster. She had, for example, already organized a humanitarian convoy to Ukraine. “I think it’s the least we can do. We have the means to do it. Plus, if the staff volunteers, then obviously we go for it.”says Michel Bronlet, managing director of MB Groupe.

More than 800 donors

Benjamin Doudelet knows mutual aid well, having been affected by the floods of 2021. He will take the wheel of the truck for Spain. “When we launched this operation, we thought it was going to take 2-3 weeks to fill the entire truck. But no, not at all. In less than a week, the semi-trailer was full. We had more than 800 donors It’s a real adventure, an incredible surge of solidarity.”rejoices Benjamin.

It was 9 a.m. this morning when a truck, a van and a trailer, fully loaded, took the road towards Catarroja, near Valencia. Arrival scheduled for this Friday morning.
