For new devices, it seems that the Apple brand favors thin models rather than foldable ones. According to a new report, Apple’s iPhone 17 Air will be just 6mm thick.
The iPhone could have a real revolution in store for users next year with the iPhone 17 model. Indeed, rumors say that it plans to design the thinnest model ever designed by Apple. According to Apple specialist analyst Jeff Pu, the iPhone 17 Air would have 6mm thick.
A slim iPhone model planned for 2025?
Apple devices are especially known for their finesse. Moreover, it has become a habit, which has sometimes been pushed to incredible limits. And I have to say that with this news, this tech giant is not resting on its laurels.
The iPhone 17 should be the thinnest phone when it is released in 2025. According to Jeff Pu’s research note, this new phone will be named iPhone 17 Air ou iPhone 17 Slim.
If Apple actually produced this 6mm iPhone, it would be the thinnest model ever designed. Remember that the current record goes to the iPhone 6, with a thickness of 6.9 mm.
Furthermore, this model would only be approximately 75% as thick as iPhone 16 series devices. This can therefore mark a huge change from one year to the next.
A thickness reserved only for the iPhone 17 Air?
It is essential to note that only the iPhone 17 Air will benefit from this thickness. So the rest of the iPhone 17 lineup will definitely have around dimensions identical to those of the iPhone 16 range.
This is what will make this new iPhone model a remarkable phone next year. However, it is clear that reducing the size of the iPhone may not be the most important novelty on time.
Indeed, Apple’s rivals have been producing foldable phones, and the best on the market, for several years now.
Obviously, Apple has been talking about producing a foldable phone for some time, but it is not yet planned for 2026 or 2027. So, in the meantime, we still have to settle for increasingly slimmer iPhones.
Many more changes to come
There will be no shortage of changes on Apple phones in 2025. All phones in the iPhone 17 range should be equipped with an A19 or A19 Pro chip.
According to Pu, it also appears that these chips are developed with an advanced N3P process. This is the third generation of the manufacturing process. This would therefore make it possible to propose a slight improvement in performance and energy efficiency.
This all doesn’t sound very exciting, but Apple is already leading the pack in phone power and performance. I think this kind of update won’t please everyone, but it should help consolidate Apple’s position while waiting the arrival on the market of the foldable iPhone.
