Algeria Football – The North African Football Union (UNAF) under-20 tournament, currently underway in Egypt, offers an enticing North African matchup between Algeria and Morocco.
This crucial derby could decide qualification for the U20 Africa Cup of Nations scheduled for 2025. The Moroccans, at the top of the standings with 6 points, approach this meeting in a favorable position, but the Algerians do not have the right to the error. A defeat would considerably complicate their chances of obtaining one of the two qualifying tickets.
An encouraging start for the Fennecs U20
For their entry into the competition, the Greens won a draw (1-1) against Egypt, host country and favorite on paper. Despite Egyptian domination, Yacine Manaâ’s charges showed remarkable resilience, equalizing thanks to Kohili four minutes from time. This performance, although mentally satisfactory, revealed a lack of efficiency in front of goal, an aspect to be corrected against a formidable Morocco.
Morocco, confident leader
With two victories in two matches, the Moroccans are in impressive form. Their well-honed offensive game poses a major challenge for the Algerians, who will have to display flawless defensive rigor and seize the slightest opportunity in attack. Coach Manaâ stressed the importance of approaching this meeting with a “winning spirit” and of realizing the chances created, a weak point during the first match.
Psychological pressure to manage
The psychological aspect will play a key role in this derby. The young Algerians will have to avoid giving in under pressure, even if Morocco were to open the scoring. Manaâ will have to find the right words to motivate his players and remind them that this meeting could be a turning point in their international career.
Algeria/Morocco: where to watch the match?
This derby will be broadcast on the UNAF Youtube channel from 8:00 p.m. Click (ICI) to watch the match in streaming.
Objective: one of the first two places
With three matches still on the program, notably against Tunisia and Libya, Algeria still has the possibility of securing one of the first two places in the tournament. A victory against Morocco would be a decisive step towards this objective and would strengthen the cohesion of a promising team made up of local and binational talents. The challenge is great, but the Fennecs U20 seem ready to give everything to proudly represent Algerian football.
