Two taxis were set on fire this Wednesday, November 20 in the Che Street district of Bamenda, regional capital of North-West Cameroon.
Two taxis were set on fire early this morning in the Che Street area of Bamenda. According to witnesses, the perpetrators of these acts are separatist fighters, linked to the ongoing crisis in the English-speaking regions of the North-West and South-West of Cameroon.
This is yet another attack on civilians, particularly taxi drivers. These acts of violence not only disrupt the livelihoods of taxi drivers, but also the mobility of residents who rely on these services for their daily commute. It is not for the first time that taxis have been targeted in Bamenda.
The separatists want to force their hand to paint their vehicles blue and white while the yellow color is the one adopted by the Cameroonian government. A distrust according to the drivers who refuse to align themselves with the wishes of the separatists.
The Anglophone crisis, ongoing since 2017, has plunged these two regions into mourning, prey to violence between government forces and Ambazonian fighters.
