The SDIRAF is sounding the alarm regarding the submission of compensation claim files to the CIVEN. Indeed, for any person who died before 2019, who would meet the criteria linked to the Morin law, files must be submitted before December 31, 2024. After this deadline, for any death before 2019 no file will be accepted.
43 days is the remaining time for families of people who died before 2019 who would like to submit a compensation request file to CIVEN. “Make an appointment and prepare your file, not everyone will be ready. When asked, CIVEN is ready to receive incomplete files and bring them back to us to complete them during the year 2025”explain Emile Vernier, president of SDIRAF, the union defending the interests of current and future retirees.
Tehaura Mohi lost her husband in 1999. One of their daughters suffers from thyroid cancer and it was she who also took care of her late father's case, encouraged by the SDIRAF. “She told me, mom, I'm going to take care of dad's case because he had lung cancer, I didn't know what to do at the time. For me, you know, he fell ill, he died, there was nothing more to do But she really wanted to do it and I encouraged her, I told her. “go ahead, my daughter!”, says Thirsty.
495 Polynesian files were received in 2023, a figure which can still be improved according to Emile Vernier. He believes that today it is easier to file a file. Via an association, or with the high commission, or even via the “ALLER VERS” mission.
Creation, recording and transmission of the file, before study in session, with an eventual positive outcome or rejection… which may give rise to an appeal.
But there is still some reluctance. Léa fought against breast cancer in 1998. Deeply marked in her flesh and in her soul, it was not until 2023 that she took steps to file her case. “If I had had the information, but I didn't have the courage to go and file my file, because you have to expose, you have to tell everything about your illness. It was hard for me because when I knew I had it, I said to myself it’s death, cancer is death!”declares very moved Read Saminadame.
Putting words to one's illness remains a difficult stage to overcome for many. In addition, the SDIRAF considers that the list of recognized pathologies is not enough and that the evaluation commission, which has been dormant since 2021, must return to service. “I don’t understand why this commission has not met since 2021 even though it is the one responsible for proposing new disease names,” believes Emile Vernier. “To the decision-makers, look at us, please help us, your Maohi people. I don't look at others, it's us you need to turn to, we the Maohi”insisted Tehaurai Moses.
The SDIRAF hopes to challenge the 11 Polynesian members of this commission, associations, deputies but especially the president of Polynesia.
