A new club born from scratch, a new life. And in this new chapter, everything is going smoothly: Miajadas Club de Fútbol presents itself as the only senior team in Extremadura not to have conceded a single goal so far in the championship. But the story doesn’t end there.
For the opening day of the league, 600 people came to the Municipal Stadium. Unsurprisingly, this marked the official start of Miajadas Club de Fútbol. Earlier this year, the entity emerged to fill the void left by CD Miajadas, which disappeared under a debt of more than 100,000 euros. The town of Miajadas, with a population of 9,500, has its football team again.
They arrived, and with great enthusiasm, embracing a new project, even if their first competition is in the lowest division, the Segunda Extremeña. “We are happy, yes, things are better than we expected,” says president and player Alejandro Jiménez González, known as ‘Alex Jiménez’ (Miajadas, 1989), who is also an experienced the old club. “At least we have to aim for the Primera Extremeña,” says the central defender, who heads a council made up of eleven committed members.

The figures are promising (300 members) and raise hopes for the future: they are the only regional football club not to have conceded a goal after six matches. A 4-0 victory against La Haba undoubtedly gave a new boost of enthusiasm. Alex Jiménez expresses his satisfaction in a team where everyone, from manager Kiko Garrido to 23 of the 24 players, comes from Miajadas.
The statutes state that the club has been official since January 22. “We are starting from zero. We are working differently from the old management, especially in the financial areas. Money still makes football tick,” explains the president and central defender. Membership fees for the season (30 euros, a reasonable amount for everyone) as well as municipal subsidies, sponsors and supporters give life to this project, in which, transparently, no one earns a single euro.

“It’s a different club, although the fans remain the same,” concludes Alex Jiménez. They had to change the main color of the jersey from red to white. “Everything is new; we have invested a lot,” adds Jiménez, who is currently unemployed but is preparing to open a sports-related business in his beloved hometown.
“We haven’t set specific objectives; we will be where the competition takes us,” he adds. “We have many options for promotion, and if we succeed, great, but at the moment I believe that the social and sporting situation deserves at least a place in the Primera División Extremeña.” The ‘new’ Miajadas is booming.
