Soaring gold price in Tunisia: Discover the main causes
The president of the National Chamber of Jewelers, Hatem Ben Youssef, explained that the selling price of gold in Tunisia is directly influenced by fluctuations in the world market.
Currently, the price of a gram of gold oscillates between 250 and 260 dinars, and can even reach 300 dinars in certain exceptional cases.
Concerning gold in good condition, requiring no artisanal work, its price varies between 210 and 230 dinars, depending on the quality of the piece. On the other hand, gold intended to be reworked sells between 190 and 195 dinars per gram.
Hatem Ben Youssef also specified that the world price of gold is currently at 83 dollars per ounce, compared to 96 dollars the previous week, thus illustrating a downward trend on international markets.
This decline is attributed, according to him, to several factors. On the one hand, the increase in demand, particularly in China, and on the other hand, the massive purchases made by Russia, which continues to stockpile gold in response to the economic sanctions imposed following the war in Ukraine.
Finally, the president of the Chamber of Jewelers stressed that the depreciation of the dinar makes the acquisition of gold increasingly difficult for Tunisians, making this precious metal even more inaccessible for a large part of the population.
