Work accident in Bordeaux: decision confirmed on appeal after the death of a roofer on a roof

Nearly four years after the tragedy, justice confirmed on appeal the conviction of the SARL Gilbert company. In 2020, Steven Jaubert, a young 27-year-old roofer who is about to be a father, fell from a roof on a construction site in the Nansouty district of Bordeaux. Last year at first instance, the justice system pointed out in its deliberations security breaches in terms of informing staff and working conditions, condemning the company to a fine of 50,000 eurosa conviction which she appealed.

“It’s not his fault, he is not guilty of his fall” whispers the victim’s sister

The court therefore confirmed the sanction on appeal, and ordered the company to pay an additional 1,000 euros to the family as well as 150 euros to each of the civil parties. For Steven Jaubert’s sister, Sarah, it’s a huge relief: “To hear found guilty by the magistrates, it’s great, I can’t say it any other way. It’s not his fault, he is not guilty of his fall.” The mother, Véronique, also says she is relieved even if this financial sanction does not weigh very heavily in her eyes: “I didn’t imagine that my son was worth so little, so don’t die in your job because for your family you won’t be worth anything.” The company has 5 days to appeal to the Court of Cassation.
