New outbreak of E. coli: urgent recall of baby carrots and whole carrots after death in the United States

Organic baby carrots and whole carrots are being recalled across the United States due to an outbreak of E. coli. coli which caused one death.

These carrots could also be sold in Canada, but no recall notice has yet been issued by Health Canada as of Sunday.

The company that produces the carrots affected by the recall, Grimmway Farms, sells its products under brands available in Canada and Quebec, such as Compliments, offered among others at IGA and Sobeys, and President's Choice, sold in grocery stores Maxi, Provigo and Loblaws.

Cases of contamination with E. coli linked to the consumption of these carrots have been reported in 18 US states, according to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) and the FDA (Food and Drug Administration).

In total, 39 cases of contamination were reported in the United States and led to one death and 15 hospitalizations.

The recalled organic baby carrots (baby carrots) have an expiration date of September 11, 2024 to November 12, 2024 and are sold under the following brand names:

– Cal-Organic (12oz, 1lb, 2lb, 2pk/2lbs)

– Compliments (1lb)

– Full Circle (1lb)

– Marketside (12oz, 1lb, 2lb)

– Nature’s Promise (1lb)

– O-Organic (12oz, 1lb, 2lb)

– President’s Choice (1lb, 2lb)


– Raley’s (1lb)

– Simple Truth (1lb)

– Sprouts (1lb, 2lb)

– Trader Joe’s (1lb)

– Wegmans (12oz, 1lb, 2lb)

– Wholesome Pantry (1lb, 2lb)

The recalled organic whole carrots, meanwhile, do not have an expiration date, but were made available for sale in U.S. grocery stores between approximately August 14, 2024 and October 23, 2024.

An investigation into this outbreak of E. Coli is underway in the United States.

This new outbreak of the bacteria comes almost a month after that affecting onions used in the preparation of Quarter Pounder hamburgers in McDonald's restaurants.

At least 104 people were sickened in 14 US states after eating the burgers in question. One person died and 34 others were hospitalized in connection with these onions contaminated with E. coli bacteria.
