The first day of summer, June 21, 2024, is a special date to inscribe on the vibrant marble of the history of Fium’Orbu.

At the concerted initiative of the president of Pegaasus, Bernard Lemonnier, of Dominique Taddei guardian of the history of these American pilots who came to Corsica fight for freedom, and the municipality of Ghisonaccia represented by its first magistrate Francis Giudici, a day of remembrance was held at the Ghisonaccia Alzitone airfield.

At eleven o’clock sharp, a memorial ceremony in the presence of the Consul General of the United States in Marseille, Jessica Huaracayo, recalled the effective involvement during the Second World War of American pilots who came to Corsica, from what they called USS Corsica, to fight Nazism throughout Europe .

Present on site, in addition to the civil and military authorities, were Bernard Biancarelli from Albiana and Dominique Taddeï, author of two reference works on the American presence in the Eastern Plain.

The opportunity for the publisher to pay a vibrant tribute to the writer of Fium’Orbu, “a man with brilliant human values, steeped in kindness and altruism, a transmitter”, said Bernard Biancarelli.

Four sheaves were placed at the foot of the monument, two offered by the assembly and the executive of Corsica carried by Sophie Finidori, one by the manager of the Pegaasus aeronautical platform carried by Jean-Laurent Santoni and Michel Collomb, and finally that of the municipality of Ghisonaccia carried by the mayor Francis Giudici and the consul.

Note for a great first in this ceremony, the presence children of the youth army squadrona system set up this year on BA 126 and supervised by reserve lieutenant Marc Tiberi.
