Anne Quérou and Odette Jacob, both residents at the Genêts d'Or nursing home (accommodation establishment for elderly and dependent people) in Plouha, celebrated their 100th birthday. Thursday, management, staff, the mayor and families prepared a lovely party for them.
Passionate about gardening
Anne Quérou, née Lacroix, was born on November 14, 1924 in Plouha. She worked in hairdressing before becoming a stay-at-home mother. Married to a soldier, a senior master, the couple had two daughters, Marie-Louise and Monique, living in Plouha and Plérin. The family has grown with the arrival of five grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter, Adèle, who will celebrate her first birthday in December. “Mom loved gardening and doing crosswords. She traveled a lot with our father,” her daughters pointed out. Widowed since 2003, Anne Quérou lived alone in her house in Plouha before joining the Genêts d'or in July 2023.
“A real mother hen”
Odette Jacob was born on October 20, 1924 in Pléguien where her parents ran a farm. She was raised with her seven siblings. She met her husband after the war and the couple had four children, Marcel, who died in 2023, Françoise, Patrice and Jean-Marie who gave them and seven grandchildren. She worked for social security and the couple lived in Paris for around fifteen years before returning to Plouha to retire. “Mom always loved knitting and gardening. The happiness of the whole family comes before his own. She’s a real mother hen,” her children said. “You are from a generation that has lived through terrible times. What courage you had. Today’s generation hopes to live as long as you,” the mayor concluded. The two centenarians received flowers and gourmet baskets.
