Former “yellow vest” figure Sophie Tissier relaunches her complaint for sexual assault and harassment against Eric Coquerel

Left-wing activist and former figure of the “yellow vests” Sophie Tissier filed a new complaint in Paris for sexual assault and harassment against outgoing La France insoumise (LFI) MP Eric Coquerel after an initial dismissal, a- she announced Monday to Agence France-Presse (AFP).

The investigation opened following a first complaint, in July 2022, from Mme Tissier was classified in February 2023 by the Paris prosecutor’s office. Mr. Coquerel, who is currently a candidate for re-election in 1re constituency of Seine-Saint-Denis, was then heard in a free hearing.

Mme Tissier had denounced facts “which may amount to sexual assault” dating from August 23, 2014 in Grenoble. She told investigators that during a dancing evening, Mr. Coquerel had had “strong gestures”. “His hands were sticky and slipped over inappropriate body parts (…)he brushed my butt several times”, she said. The activist told him she “makes it clear that he [l]‘annoyed and [l]‘indisposed’. Later in the evening, at a nightclub, Mr. Coquerel allegedly “grabbed by the waist and hips with insistence”. Mme Tissier made public his accusations against Mr. Coquerel just after the latter’s accession, on June 30, 2022, to the strategic position of president of the finance committee of the National Assembly.

In a post written Sunday on the blogging platform of MediapartMme Tissier believes that the dismissal of the open investigation “is once again revolting and testifies to the permanent denial of justice that the victims suffer.”

“After a dismissal by the prosecutor for an insufficiently characterized offense and a clear confirmation of this decision by the public prosecutor’s office, this complaint with the constitution of a civil party is a non-event”commented for her part Eric Coquerel’s lawyer, Me Olivia Ronen, with AFP.

Furthermore, Eric Coquerel’s deputy, Manon Monmirel, is the target of a complaint from a man of Jewish faith following an altercation, against a backdrop of accusations of anti-Semitism, according to information from the Monde. Mr. Coquerel mentions a “slanderous denunciation”.
