Polling stations close at 3 p.m. in the 105 Italian municipalities called to vote in the municipal elections. 101 municipalities in ordinary status regions were concerned, one municipality in Sardinia (Monserrato) and three municipalities in Sicily (Caltanissetta, Gela and Pachino). The turnout rate in the second round of local elections was 47.71, Interior Ministry data shows.

The one obtained in the municipal elections is “a historic victory for the Democratic Party and the progressive camp”. This was stated by the Secretary of the Democratic Party, Elly Schlein. “We won in the six regional capitals, wresting three from the right and with three new mayors,” he added.

“From Florence to Bari, from Campobasso to Perugia, from Potenza to Cagliari. It is irrevocable, the cities have rejected the right which governs and have sent a clear message to Giorgia Meloni: more cuts in health care, more low wages and more differentiated autonomy,” declared the secretary of the Democratic Party.

Sarah Funaro she is the new mayor of Florence. The center-left candidate received 60.56 percent of the vote, while the center-right candidate, Eike Schmidt, stopped at 39.44. Funaro is the first female mayor of Florence.

Vito Leccese is the new mayor of Bari. The center-left candidate received 69.44 percent of the vote, while the center-right candidate, Fabio Romito, stopped at 29.73 percent.

Victoria Ferdinandi she is the new mayor of Perugia. The center-left candidate received 52.12 percent of the vote, while the center-right candidate, Margherita Scoccia, stopped at 47.88 percent.

Vincenzo Telesca is the new mayor of power. The center-left candidate received 64.92 percent of the vote, while the center-right candidate, Francesco Fanelli, stopped at 35.08 percent.

Marialuisa Forte she is the new mayor of Campobasso. With 54 out of 56 sections examined, the center-left candidate received 50.97 percent of the vote, while the center-right candidate, Aldo De Benedittis, stopped at 49.03 percent.
